Johnstown, PA has been the site of three major floods. As a result, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers constructed the Johnstown Local Flood Protection Project along the Stonycreek, Little Conemaugh and Conemaugh Rivers.

Situated in the Southwestern region of Pennsylvania, the City of Johnstown is located in a valley of the Appalachian Mountain chain called the Allegheny Mountains.

The city rests at the junction of two rivers--the Stoneycreek and Little Conemaugh and it is at this point where these waterways become the Conemaugh River.
